چکیده
We present a comprehensive analytical and numerical study of shear-dominated flows Oldroyd-B fluids. Starting from transient ideal Couette flow, we show that less work is required to increase the shear rate than decrease it. Generalizing this observation non-homogeneous steady flows, reduced flow resistance around streamlines with increasing increased decreasing rate. demonstrate effect in smoothly converging or diverging Poiseuille flows. Finally, observed past cylinder straight channel caused by contraction-expansion-like takes place at sides cylinder. Our findings are validated wide parametric analysis regarding geometrical characteristics domains material parameters model.

Emergence of singular structures in Oldroyd-B fluids
Numerical simulations reveal the formation of singular structures in the polymer stress field of a viscoelastic fluid modeled by the Oldroyd-B equations driven by a simple body force. These singularities emerge exponentially in time at hyperbolic stagnation points in the flow and their algebraic structure depends critically on the Weissenberg number. Beyond a first critical Weissenberg number t...
متن کاملNumerical approximation of viscoelastic Oldroyd-B flows in curved pipes
The aim of this paper is to study a finite element numerical approximation of steady flows of an incompressible viscoelastic Oldroyd-B fluid in curved pipes of arbitrary cross-section and curvature ratio. Using rectangular toroidal coordinates, existence and uniqueness of approximated solutions are proved as well as a priori error estimates, under a natural restriction on the pipe curvature ratio.
متن کاملDouble scaling and intermittency in shear dominated flows.
The nature of intermittency in shear dominated flows changes with respect to homogeneous and isotropic conditions since the process of energy transfer is affected by the turbulent kinetic energy production associated with the Reynolds stresses. For these flows, a new form of refined similarity law is able to describe the increased level of intermittency. Ideally a length scale associated with t...
متن کاملRegularity of flows and optimal control of shear-thinning fluids
We study optimal control problems of systems describing the flow of incompressible shearthinning fluids. Taking advantage of regularity properties of the flows, we derive necessary optimality conditions under a restriction on the optimal control.
متن کاملTurbulent pipe flow of shear-thinning fluids
Direct numerical simulation of the weakly turbulent flow of non-Newtonian fluids is undertaken for two different generalised Newtonian rheology models using a spectral element-Fourier method. Results for a power law (shear-thinning) rheology agree well with experimentally determined logarithmic layer correlations and with other previously published experimental work. As the flow index becomes s...
